I wouldn't dye anything before the level 10 armors. You'll outgrow them too soon. You still outgrow them fast 10-20, but buying 4 dyes isn't a big deal at level 15. I'd save a black dye until level 20, I think those are rare (only color I haven't gotten).

I Ran into like 6 orange dye's yesterday...
Something I noticed though. I tried to dye my Ithas Bow, and it showed up in the items menu but not in game.
Anyone else try this?

My girlfriend did the same with her Pre-order shield where it showed in the menu but not in the game character. Hope they'll fix this so people stop wasting dyes.

the funny thing about dyes is when u least expect it they come out. (like many things u dont search for...)
i got most of my dyes from aloe seeds. the 1st 3 outside ascalon city (pre-sear lakeside county). 1 silver, 1 blk, 1 red, a blue showed up @ a farther located aloe seed (the one with the lvl5 oakheart creature).
and also another silver 1 orange and 1 green and another red from other monsters.
i didnt expect to get this many dyes in pre-sear. hope my 2nd charac gets even luckier.hehe

Wow, I may have to take some time and try to get a bunch of dye in Pre-Searing. So far I only have 2 reds and a yellow.

I'd suggest selling the black dye, it should fetch a very nice price.
So far I've found one silver (Which I used), two red, a yellow, a purple and a green.

Same. But the way the dye and mat merchants work, is they buy stuff from players and then sell it to other players for a higher price. Everything on those merchants is because other people sold to them. So if there ever is black it will be close to the same price as the other dyes (at first, the price will go up like it has for leather and cloth), but sell out very fast.

dye drops
I also recieved a few dyes from aloe seeds, and from the skale by gwen's flute. My first monster killed in the whole game dropped a blue dye. After just questing and not even killing very much (just lvl4) I already have 3 dye's (blue, sliver, orange), and quite a bit of crafting materials. Now I just need to hunt down all the upgraded warrior armor in pre-sear.

Keep black dye. If you want to know why, try getting a quote for it at the Dye Merchant.
Buy all the dye you can in Pretty Ascalon. The running price for dye there is around 25g in a trade. However, after that, it tends to go for more that 75g each from others.

Hahaha. My brother was in pre-searing and someone sold him a black die for 100. I wish those things would happen to me.

You should dye a pair of gloves. because if they ever decide to introduce housing into the game you will be ready with your shiny black gloves!

I don't that's true about the pricing starting close to the same. If someone sells black to the merchant when there's none, it'll appear on the list with a much higher price than anything else, how much higher depends on how much of the other stuff he has. If he has 10 of everything else, and someone sells him a black, he'll price it in a way that reflects the fact that it's 10 times rarer than anything else in stock. Rather than starting out close to the same, it'll start out much higher, and only come down as more sold to him (or go up if more other stuff is sold without any more black coming in).
Incidently, black was on the list this morning, selling for 980 gp when I checked, whereas everything else was 140-220 gp.
EDIT: Just checked now, black is now at 965 gp. Red has gone up to 310 gp, silver to 245, blue to 230, green 150, and everything else is 140. Oh, and now rechecking my figures, in the time it took me to type that, blue dropped to 210 and green to 145, so at least two people were selling dyes while I was typing that sentence.
